Curriculum

The Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program was founded in 1973 to enrich the multicultural education opportunities available to all children in grades K-5 in the San Francisco public school system.

When it comes to curriculum, JBBP provides the basics and beyond. Subjects in the core JBBP curriculum include reading, math, science, social studies, language arts, physical education, visual and performing arts, music, and multicultural studies. The JBBP curriculum exceeds requirements established by the state of California and the San Francisco Unified School District.

Lessons are in English. Japanese-speaking children benefit from assistance in their native language as they master English skills. English-speaking children benefit from exposure to Japanese reading, writing, and conversation. Japanese art and music activities enliven the lessons. Read more about our Japanese program here
